CAM deep hole drilling has two outputs to review: the intended operation and the machine program produced by the postprocessor. They can represent the same task in different forms. A cycle name in the operation tree is not enough to establish the commands or motion that reached the machine.

A documented Fusion example

Fusion’s cycle reference says the post passes parameters to supported built-in cycles and can emit explicit positioning moves when a specific cycle is unavailable. It also lists guided-drilling parameters such as starting depth, positioning speed and positioning feed. Those separate positioning into the pilot from the later cutting interval.

Use that distinction to inspect the operation: where does positioning end, where does cutting begin, and which settings govern each? The selected drill’s entry procedure remains the application reference. Autodesk’s generic motion drawing does not resolve conflicting withdrawal instructions from different tool constructions.

Preserve the handover

Retain the CAM project revision, tool assembly, stock and fixture representation, machine definition, post revision and exact emitted file. Compare the file’s feed mode, return levels and coolant commands with the installed machine documents. This is an editorial review method, not a claim that all posts generate the same blocks.

If a post update changes a canned cycle into expanded moves, compare the actual sequence rather than rejecting the file because it is longer. Conversely, a compact cycle call still needs its controller semantics checked.

Mastercam and NX require their own evidence

The public source reviewed here documents Fusion. It does not establish feature parity, cycle arguments or verified post behaviour in Mastercam or NX. For either system, obtain the corresponding operation reference and a representative output from the identified post, then compare the same entry, cut, breakthrough and withdrawal events.

A useful comparison is whether the required sequence survives that translation. An unsupported ranking of CAM brands would not answer it.

The program-evidence diagram below marks the handovers. Use the conversions tool for established speed/feed units; it supplies no toolpath or post validation. Continue to multi-axis CAM for orientation and assembly exclusions, or the program-library article to retain an approved package.
