A deep hole drilling program library is useful when another engineer can reconstruct what was approved. The NC file belongs to a package: machine and control, tool assembly, setup, applicable procedure and the evidence from its validation. Without those relationships, a library becomes a collection of unexplained blocks.

Store the translation as well as the file

Fusion’s cycle reference explains that the postprocessor can choose a built-in cycle or expanded motion. Retain the CAM project, machine definition and post revision that produced the released file. A regenerated file from a newer post needs comparison even when the CAM operation settings appear unchanged.

For a manually authored program, preserve its design reference and revision instead. Keep illustrative fragments separate from programs released for a named installation. Earlier controller-independent drilling examples on this page were withdrawn because they had no verified machine/control validation record.

Configuration defines a variant

An editorial package can include program ID and revision; drawing and bore identifiers; control and enabled options; tool/holder and projection; fixture and work reference; coolant arrangement; operating procedure; and the measured validation result.

Distinguish a change in that package from a cosmetic filename change. A replacement holder, new post or changed tool sequence may require a new review even if cutting speed remains constant. An untested variant should not inherit the status of the original released configuration.

Retain macro dependencies

If the program calls a macro, include the called revision and relevant state assumptions. The Haas macro chapter describes local nesting, global/system variables and lookahead evaluation. Those documented dependencies illustrate why the top-level NC file alone may not reconstruct the behaviour of a named control program.

Keep normal operation and interruption/recovery documentation identifiable. A successful production record establishes what happened in that configuration; it does not supply a universal restart sequence.

The diagram below connects the stored intent, emitted file, actual setup and inspected result. Use the quality worksheet to retain feature and measurement scope alongside a validation record. Read the CAM handover page before regenerating a file, or the macro page when the package contains custom logic.
