Sandvik’s October 6 video transcript describes a Dura 462 deep-hole assortment reaching 30×D. It identifies same-diameter short-hole tools as pilots and recommends a pilot for lengths of 15×D and above.
An assortment ceiling is not every tool size
The presenter says maximum diameter decreases as tools become longer. Read the exact diameter–length combination before treating the family ceiling as a purchasable tool. Claimed tool-life and cost improvements remain manufacturer statements; the presentation does not supply a matched production trial.
Before changing a setup
Our editorial recommendation is to obtain the tool code, regional availability, current pilot instructions and reconditioning limits in writing. The page date establishes publication of this presentation, not a universal launch or stock date.
Use the pilot-hole guidance to prepare the next enquiry.
Preserve the configuration when comparing the extension
The presentation describes a family of diameter and length combinations. Its discussion of a smaller maximum diameter at longer lengths means that the 30×D ceiling and the largest family diameter cannot be combined into an assumed catalogue item.
Identify the actual orderable tool code and the pilot specified for that configuration. The same-diameter pilot statement establishes a relationship within the presented system; it does not replace the current instructions for entering, drilling and withdrawing a particular tool. We do not reconstruct those instructions from the transcript.
Reconditioning is another configuration question. A comparison needs the service action, restored geometry and remaining usable length of the actual tool. The manufacturer’s general tool-life and cost statements do not establish how many accepted holes a reconditioned tool will deliver on another component.
The service-interval diagram below connects tool identity to output before and after service. Use the accepted-hole cost tool with observed or quoted inputs, labeling estimates as estimates. Continue to the pilot/guidance discussion and tooling overview to distinguish this solid-carbide range extension from other deep-hole tool architectures.
